India

I spent 3 months trekking in India and by the end of it i was off drinking all liquor and most beer. I also gave up pork, but that is another story, that once told will stick with you forever. They seem to have the idea there that its better to add some chemicals to make their product faster. Stay away from the whiskey. In the end its just better to eat and drink lassies.

Kalyani Black Label scalp circa 1996
Kalyani Black Label is one of India's oldest lagers and is particularly popular in Delhi. At 7.8% it packs quite a punch, along with its sweet aftertaste. If you like a beer with flavor, go for Kalyani.

Cannon 10000 Super Strong Beer scalp circa 1996
Cannon 10000 Super strong beer is not a lie. This stuff is mental strong. like 10% or something. I don't remember much about the taste of this one as I was pissed off my head.

Kings Pilsner scalp circa 1997
The Kings Black Label premium pilsner is a very light tasting, palish in color. Its punches in at 4.85%, and is priced really cheap. A small bottle will only set you back around 35 rupees (75 cents) at most beach shacks, and half that at a liquor store but unfortunately is only brewed and sold in the state of Goa.

Kingfisher Lager scalp circa 1996
Kingfisher is India's most recognized and widely available beer. Its a light tasting, easy drinking beer with plenty of malt. It goes down really well, maybe it has something to do with the rumors of glycerine in it. Whatever the case follow the labels advice "Most thrilling chilled." This stuff gives a gnarly hangover the next day.

Old Monk Rum scalp circa 1996
Old Monk Rum is a smooth dark rum with a hint of vanilla, it clocks in at 42.8% and ended up being the drink of choice for John and I in Goa. Like the say in Goa Old Monk is "The Drink of Gods and Lords of India."
